The spark of dream and ambition is always present in Michael’s eyes, but The Village Boutique & Spa holds his heart.
Michael Zammit Tabona is no stranger to the hotel and tourism industry in Malta. His name is synonymous with hotels and businesses that are hallmarks of entrepreneurial success on the island.
Never one to sit idle for long – or ever! – Michael is immensely proud of what The Village Boutique & Spa team has achieved. For him, the journey to get here has been one of hard work, perseverance and ambition.
Michael started off in tourism in Malta in the early 1970s, when the industry was still somewhat of a pipe dream. He followed in the footsteps of his father and uncle before him, who had set up the renowned Tigne Court Hotel in Qui Si Sana in Sliema – one of the first hotels on the island.
The calibre of service at the Tigne Court Hotel was so renowned that Queen Elizabeth II used to frequent the hotel when in Malta as a princess. And, it was also a favourite amongst British Naval officers.
Michael first trained at the Tigne Court Hotel when he was just 15 years old. He eventually went on to be pivotal in setting up Captain Morgan Cruises, the Fortina Hotel & the Fortina Spa Resort. Captain Morgan Cruises has recently rebraded and is now iSeeMalta, Malta’s one stop shop for excursions, travel, cultural and historical sites access.
Looking back on his many years in the business, a golden thread runs through it all: Michael’s love for creating fun ways for visitors to experience the Maltese island.
Islands. And this is where The Village Boutique & Spa comes in.
His dream was to create a small hotel that would feel like a luxurious home on holiday – and to bring Malta’s hidden treasures to visitors and show them the real Malta.
